Ch3 07
If you’re paid so much for a job, why are you never without a shirt, Lark!? Hunh!? HUNH!? Oh. Right. Marketing. Yep. That’ll do it. Carry on.
Alli’s wrist is on the mend and it’s coming along nicely. The wrist brace purchased for her is helping to strengthen the wrist itself and the stretches she’s found are working out very well. She’s been able to prep an extra page this week, so hopefully we’ll be back in full production soon!
Thank you all for your advice, kind words and patience! We’re lucky to have you all with us.
Ahahahahah… but they’re so SIMPLE!! Of course its a double edged sword… you start doing the small stuff cause it’s easy there is the possibility of getting inundated by them!
lol yes, Hass can’t get over how simple these contracts for the great Lark really are.
The Lark has become a status icon for the Nobs, because of those novella’s, hasn’t he ?
Of course, if they *really* knew how he was, they might think twice.
Also, I’m liking Lark more and more, he’s oddly grounded, in this weird world.
I’m loving seeing all these reader comments about how much they are liking Lark more and more =D
… we’re gonna regret that, aren’t we ?
One wonders if that’s half the reason for the novellas. We keep hearing about how the Order is short on funds, and presumably they at least get a take from the Lark’s contracts. They probably feel that a thousand rounds for a nice, safe ribbon-cutting ceremony is a good deal… particularly for a Champion who keeps getting his Guardian killed.
Well, either that or it is a stab at how ridiculous some quests are in RPG’s.
I mean, here you have the greatest hero in the world at hand, and you offer him a quest to … deliver a letter or kill 10 rats?
They have their reasons… Most of them involve more rounds.
Ok. All of them involve more rounds.
And fine print. Always read the fine, magically weaved into the paper, fine print.
Glad to hear Alli’s wrist is doing better. There was an article in one of the major newspapers this past week(end) that asserted physicial therapy is as effective as surgery for carpal tunnel syndrome so if Alli continues to have troubles, she might want to look into seeing a physical therapist whether she has carpal tunnel or something else.
For Lark — “Don’t sweat the small shit. It’s all small shit.” Sounds like he’s definitely thinking in that direction as opposed to Hasera’s adherence the nearly-universal, conventional idea (which will be the downfall of civilization) that everything must be monetized. Go Lark! 🙂
Thanks Bill, it may be something to look into in the future if this keeps up. I’m glad you seem to be warming up to our burley hero 😉
I suffered a short bout of carpal tunnel inflammation, and found that I used the computer a lot back then.
So, I got me a much lighter mouse with less moving resistance, and exchanged the glass mousepad to a polymer mousepad – I also started wearing longer sleeves.
Between less strain (lighter mouse, new mousepad) and more heat in my lower arm/wrist (long sleeves, glass -> polymer mousepad), and also repositioning me and taking few small breaks, my inflammation was gone in less than a week, and I haven’t had any issues since then.
Have to remember to change mouse and pad every now and then. as they get worn out.
But apart from that it works fine.
Thanks Sheela, I’m happy to say that my hand is feeling a bit better, between stretches and wearing my brace. Hopefully I can get it back to 100% soon =)
Yes, well, what you really need is to avoid it happening again.
And lessening the load will help.
Also, keep it warm, it makes the lubrication work better.
By Grabthar’s Hammer… what a conduit.
I F*&^king love Galaxy Quest! You get 5 Order Points, Zimriel!
Perhaps the reason the Lark keeps losing all those partners is insufficiently good equipment to protect them from the insane stuff he tackles. Turning your nose up at enough easy contracts will hurt the finances.
Your adventuring time is limited. If you’ve got nothing worthwhile from a challenge perspective, order the rest by money per unit of time and grind your way through them until something worthwhile comes up. This does the salutory service of taking money out of the hands of status obsessed idiots and into the hands of people who build interesting protective gear and other craftsmen.
Well, yeah, but that would make *sense*; and we can’t have that, now can we? 😜
Lark doesn’t want to waste his talents and abilities on trivial activities. Imagine Superman cutting a ribbon at a supermarket opening: you’d be happy to see him, but really, he could be using his time better by, i don’t know, stopping a train from derailing or saving a crashing airliner.
Lark isn’t in this for the money, and that’s why his companions have a lifespan measured in days.
