That is understandable too. I mean if they were his Guardian, it would probably be I am going to miss those epic tits, or farewell that sweet ass, or the things she could with her mouth.
I had to attend a funeral of family member as kid I never even met. People wanted me to say something about them, and since I was younger and that blunt honesty of a child. I announced I don’t know who this person is, but they are dead. To me looking back on it is funny, awkward for everyone else, but it has always bothered me how family just thinks because some is family you should KNOW them. It has made no sense to me.
in the words of soldiers, mercenaries and other such professionals as they walk by their best friends body after a fight. “bah, just another trooper” But. Yeah those two words and no mention of how well the fields will produce the next year. heh, irony is those are exactly the words I want…”another drink?” Mind SWMBO has been instructed that if me wake doesn’t make Finnegan’s seem like a light evening with close friends. I’ll be back to haunt them all.
I think they should ask Hasera. She already delivered a quick but appropriate eulogy for Lark, when she thought he was dead (after mail delivery accident), so she has a natural talent for that.
There is of course the trend of people hiring more capable, and thus, expensive Champions if the lower tier is scraped off. The requirement to try and promote lesser Champions to get a better return on investments. The ability of Guardians to ensure profits are kept at an all time high through various questionable charging practices. Inflation rates. The potential of the Abyssals bringing their considerable wealth back into The Order and purchasing their standing within the righteous organization again.
Too many meta things for them to be cut and dry about it, not to mention the repercussions that tales of a sudden Abyssal wurms bursting through houses, rogue abyssal assassination plots and whatever else might happen to get to the ears of the inhabitants of the 8 other planes. Why, this terrifying news might result in the very wealthy inhabitants of said planes suddenly deciding that they need extra protection in these uncertain times!
The Order would even need to bring into account how well the next installment of The Chronicles of Lark sells before they would finalize their decision.
But if we want to truly boil it down:
If the balance of funds for The Order of the Nine Planes has gone in the positives, then it was a good decision.
If the balance of funds for The Order of the Nine Planes has gone in the negatives, something must be done.
Feelings? Who know them.
Ah the awkward moment at a funeral when you got nothing to say, or in some cases nothing nice to say about them.
I mean, how many Guardians has Lark personally lost? Maybe he was broken up about it once upon a time, but now? Not so much.
That is understandable too. I mean if they were his Guardian, it would probably be I am going to miss those epic tits, or farewell that sweet ass, or the things she could with her mouth.

Eh, no less than a dozen minimum.
And the dead Champion is of no concern at all? Just “fewer an’ fewer”?
… or are they going to say a word or two for him after that drink?
… the same two words, perhaps?

That’s how they showed their respect for Patty Murphy
Yup, mind I’d smile kindly if my BFF showed up 2 hours late herding a passel of snails “c’mon boys we’re almost there”. 😉
Remind me not to let Lark speak at my funeral (leaning hard towards cremation right now). 😜

Hasera: This Seraph was always so joyous, loud, green-wearing and happy – until she was gutted like a fish and left to bleed out. Then she was dead.
Lark: Cindrani’ll bring her back just to let her slap you for that eulogy.
Okay, I was just checking back … I don’t know if anyone has mentioned it yet, but …
See, there were four guardians in this inn.
The only one who survived, was Lark’s.
If the Council learns of this, I wonder it they will think think they made a good choice in Hasera, or instead “what have we wrought”?
🙂
Considering they thought her in lack of healing prowess would be his own funeral. The later of death knell of woes.
